About Stockport Radio Society

Formed in 1920, Stockport Radio Society is one of the oldest radio societies in England. It has approximately 100 members of all ages and backgrounds who share one thing in common - an interest in Amateur Radio.

The club recently moved to it's new HQ in Bramhall, a district of Stockport, which is a town lying about 8 miles south of the city of Manchester, in theNorth West of England. Although many of our members are licensed Radio Amateurs, everyoneis welcome to join. We have members who are Short-Wave listeners, air band enthusiasts, people who enjoy building and experimenting with electronic projects and even an D-I-Y Radio Astronomer.

As well as conversing across the airwaves, members meet twicea month at their spacious new headquarters at LeewoodHall , Benja Fold, approximately one mile north from the centre of  BramhallVillage .

Our clubmeetings are a great place to meet other like-minded people. Based on ourpopular "Skills Group" format, our programme of events includes theoccasional short technical and non-technical talks, 'nights on the air',practical sessions aimed at giving guidance on various aspects of the hobby tomembers and newcomers alike, plus the occasional quiz and surplus equipmentsales.

Our programme is aimed at underpinning the 'self-training'objectives of our hobby and focuses on developing a wide range of technicalskills in electronics and radio plus the interpersonal skills associated withcommunications and team working often leading to a career in industry. Inaddition the evenings provide opportunity to meet and make friends with mutualinterests in the local community on a regular basis.

Additionally, for anyone wishing to get on the air for thefirst time, we are now able to offer the " FoundationLicence " course along with "Foundation Morse assessments" forany Class B licencee wishing to "get on HF"!

Throughout the year, the club and it's members also get involved in weekend activities such special eventdemonstration stations and Amateur RadioContests . At these times, our club callsigns, G6UQ, M5MDX and G8SRS can beheard on many of the amateur bands.

At all our meetings light refreshments are available along with, and perhapsmore importantly, our members wealth of experience in all aspects of AmateurRadio. So, why not come along and join us.
