Welcome to the SOTA Alerting System! Summits on the Air is a programme that encourages radio amateurs who enjoy hill walking and the great outdoors to take their radios with them and operate from the mountain tops. An award scheme recognises those who activate the summits and also those that make QSOs with the activators. The programme can be operated anywhere in the world. For more information about the SOTA program in your area, please see the main SOTA Website . The SOTA Alerting System consists of two functions: A log of Upcoming SOTA Activations to allow activators to notify chasers to their plans to activatespecific summits. An ETA is given along with planned frequencies and modes of operation. A listing of Latest SOTA 'Spots' . This allowschasers and activators to notify other chasers of actual activityand also changes of frequencies, changes of plans, etc. Remember the ETA stands for 'estimated' time of arrival and, whileactivators should make every effort to be realistic and accurate, there are many reasons why timescales will shift on the hill. Activators should not feel under pressure to compromise safety to meeting timescalesor any other aspects of their advance notification. The spotting facility should allow chasers to follow the actual activity of activating stations which can be subject to change.
