Hello everyone, don't panic, the aeroplane is on the ground!!

The photograph was taken on a very hot August day a few years ago when Gary, David, Tony and myself visited Air Atlantique's facility at Coventry Airport in the West Midlands. The aircraft is a Douglas DC-6, registration G-SIXC, and can still be seen flying today!

I think this picture amply illustrates my interest in aviation, anyway, more of that later.

Before we go any further, here's a bit about me.

I was born in 1960 and still live in Stockport, a town in North West England, with my parents, Margaret & Ronald. I went to Cheadle Heath Primary and Dialstone School's, followed by Stockport College where I took and passed an OND in Management & Business Studies.

In 1978, I joined Lloyds Bank Ltd, now Lloyds TSB Bank PLC , and over the years have worked at a number of their branches and departments around the north west of England. At the moment though, I'm based at City Road East in the centre of Manchester.

My interests include, aviation, ham radio, Stockport County football club and I'm a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) . I've also been known to pot a few balls on a Snooker table, as well as bowl a few bowls across the green at the local park! More recently, wrestling with my sports kite has interested me when the weather allows!

I mentioned earlier my interest in aviation, well with Manchester Airport a mere stones throw away, and with aircraft passing over the house at regular intervals on their way in and out of the airport, an interest in aircraft was inevitable.

I can't remember how old I was when my parents bought me my first air band radio, but, ever since I've been hooked! When I first started out I collected registrations, but, when I was 21, my parents gave me a Nikon SLR camera, which I still use to do this day. From then on, I have concentrated on taking photo's of aircraft, mostly of large jets and at Manchester, but, I have been to other airports, my favourite being Frankfurt in Germany.

I'm a member of The Aviation Society or TAS for short, who arrange trips all over the world.

As well as aviation, I've been interested in radiofrom an early age and in some ways, the 2 interests were interlinked. On myfirst airband radio, I used to hear signals from 2 amateurs not far away, one ofthem was G3ZOD. Anyway, my Father bought and built a short wave receiver kit,and I was soon listening to Radio Moscow and strange "Donald Duck"like signals from around the world which I later found out were "radio hams", I washooked!

In 1989, I took and passed my RAE, Radio Amateur's Examination and was issued with G7IOR a Class "B" callsign. On passing my Morse code test in 1990, my class "A" callsign G0RXA was attained.

I'm the current Chairman of Stockport Radio Society and am a member of the Barpackers contest group. This photo shows me, along with Gary and Tony, operating in one of the first 2 metre backpackers contests. Note the headgear, this was obtained from Berlin, now, there's another story!

I like most Sports, but, overall I am a footballfan. My team is my local side Stockport County where I am a season ticket holderin the Cheadle stand. Whilst, I can't claim to be an armchair sports fan, thenumber of sports I've been able to watch on TV has been increased following thepurchase of a Sky Digital box.

I used to play football, mostly 5 a side, but, my days of running around a football pitch are long gone. Now, I like to play more sedate sports like Snooker and Crown Green bowling. More recently, on a holiday in Salou, I purchased a sports kite, and now I like to spend a few hours wrestling with the kite on a beach or hill top.

So, that's a bit about me. I hope you find my pages interesting.
